CLIMATE JUSTICE

The climate crisis is the greatest existential threat to our civilization and requires bold action from the local to the national level. As a member of the Democratic National Committee, Megan fought to have a Climate Debate so that this crisis could be given the national attention it deserves. As Alderwoman, Megan has co-sponsored legislation to require new construction projects be solar-ready, and to update our building codes. In St. Louis City, environmental racism has a direct impact on the quality of life, including life expectancy, of residents of the 5th Senatorial District. Megan is committed to:

  • Supporting the Ready for 100 initiative to equitably transition Missouri to 100% clean, renewable energy
  • Green New Deal legislation, such as what was passed in Maine, that integrates workforce development with the need to urgently address our climate crisis
  • Requiring meeting green building standards to be eligible for state tax credits
  • Supporting the repeal of legislation that stripped local municipalities of the local control to regulate Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs)
  • Opposing the sale, or privatization, of public parks/lands
  • Supporting the construction of the Grain Belt wind energy transmission line which seeks to bring jobs and wind energy to Missouri
  • Supporting environmentally responsible action to address the increased frequency and intensity of floods and oppose the allocation of tax incentives to projects which seek to build in flood plains
  • Opposing legislation that preempts the ability of local municipalities to regulate the usage of plastic bags and straws, or implement other sustainability policies
